This image depicts Robert "Kit" Cardwell's amazing flight. He flew 37 missions, received the DFC after his plane was damaged by flak over Frankfurt. All of his controls were shot away and his turbochargers on all four engines burned up. He managed to fly the 8 hour return trip using only his trim tabs and his ballturret gunner had his leg blown off by flak. On return his aircraft had over 250 holes in it, some the size of a fist. During the mission he saw 2 Me262's go by (top left).

Thanks to Robert Cardwell for his very insightful and detailed input he gave to the development of this image!

Rendering and details in Lightwave but also used MoI 3D for much of the modeling. It is a fantastic NURBS/Solids modeler with beautiful mesh exports. My new favorite modeler!
